Writing this review felt like a return to the roots Obie and I share — two Afrikaner boys who grew up on farms, found our way into photography, and later had to reckon with the histories that shaped us. In Going Dutch, Obie traces the echoes between South Africa and the Netherlands, and I approach his work not only as a fellow photographer, but as a psychologist attuned to how landscapes, colour, and memory carry emotional truth. This piece is both a tribute and a reflection: on heritage, on complicity, and on the quiet work of making sense of where we come from.
